In December I undertook student work experience at FDM in London
The day I spent doing work experience at FDM allowed me to see for myself what it would be like to work there after graduating.
Before arriving, I was asked what areas of the company I would be most interested in experiencing, so they could provide me with a day that catered to my interests; this really allowed me to get the most out of it. I participated in lessons on SQL and VBA with graduates who were training in the company, which allowed an insight into what I’d be learning if I were to join. The classes I attended were led by very approachable people, and they worked at a fast yet steady pace that made it easy to follow.
Although I had no prior experience with SQL and VBA, I was able to gather a general knowledge on them, and was able to understand it far better than I thought I would. I also got to sit in on an interview, which really shed a light on exactly what potential employers expect of you. Spending the day at FDM sounded like a daunting prospect, but on arrival everyone was friendly and open to questions: I now realise that the transition from University to graduating and work isn’t as daunting as I’d originally thought.
