Finance has been driving the IT industry in recent years. Financial institutions have been updating their IT systems and this in turn has increased demand for IT graduates. But IT Consultants working in the financial services industry need to understand the complex world of global financial services as well as IT development. This training stream gives you both of those things, and culminates in a professional qualification from the Securities and Investment Institute.
Understanding financial instruments and the market
FDMs IT finance stream will equip you with an awareness and appreciation of the industry, giving you a unique grounding and the specialist skills you will need to build a career as an Application Support Analyst.
The course covers the regulatory environment, the debt market, alternative investments including derivatives, futures and options, foreign exchange, and property, hedge funds and private equity. You will explore retail products like unit trusts, investment trusts, REITs, loans and mortgages, life assurance, and pensions. You will cover tax, economics and economic indicators such as RPI & RPIX. You will complete this part of the course by taking the IAQ Unit 01 Introduction to Securities and Investments exam.
IT Concepts for the financial market
Your training will then take you through the essential IT concepts you will need in order to successfully operate in the financial environment. It will begin with an introduction to the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) a set of concepts and techniques for managing IT infrastructure, development, and operations. You will gain an understanding of best practice relating to the provision of IT services. You will also learn Universal Modelling Language (UML), the essential communication tool for business analysts and developers, and be introduced to Quantitative Analysis techniques using VBA and Excel.
