Many people come out of university with a degree in a specific subject they don’t want to pursue any more, but it’s not always easy to make the switch and do something else. If you’re looking for a career in IT, FDM may be able to help.
Have you taken a specialised IT module or used IT in a work placement? Maybe you have learnt how to build applications, programmes or websites in you spare time? Have you worked in a technical environment where you developed an interest in computing? As long as you can demonstrate a genuine passion and an aptitude for IT, then FDM could be your best way into this exciting industry.
Many of our consultants come from a mathematics, science, engineering or electronics background and find that the skills used in their degree are transferable to IT. However, there have been some who have successfully embarked upon a career with FDM holding an unrelated degree such as English, Zoology and Psychology.

Remember, the IT industry is fast-paced and new technologies are constantly emerging, making it a profession in which you will continue to learn throughout your career. For this reason, FDM is seeking individuals who have the ability to absorb and apply information quickly and effectively. This is a natural skill and one of the main explanations why consultants from a non-IT related background have been able to build successful careers through FDM’s Master Class Programme.
Have you got what it takes?
If you are unsure of whether you have an aptitude for IT, try reading up on UNIX and SQL on a website like Wikipedia. See how easily you understand the theory and process the information - this will also give you an idea of whether an IT career is something you would enjoy. Proceed to check your suitability and apply.
