Where could FDM take you?

Next Steps

Once your intensive training is finished, you will be offered a position as an FDM Mountie, usually working on-site in one of FDM’s client offices as part of a project team.

In an Application Support Analyst role, you would typically work within large investment banks to solve technical and workflow issues relating to the software and systems that support key areas of the business, such as the trading floor. You will be dealing directly with stock, risk, derivatives or futures traders, supporting the smooth running of critical business applicaitons. Career progression options include becoming a Support Team Leader or trading software technical specialist, building strong careers in investment banking systems.

As a Test Analyst, you will oversee the software development lifecycle and critically examine user interfaces, scripts and processing code, to ensure the final software adheres to stringent quality assurance standards. Working with the technical, commercial and end-user aspects of the software, this career path requires analytical and technical skills, together with diplomacy and a process-orientated, commercially-sound approach. Career development includes senior tester, test team leader, quality assurance consultant and business analyst roles.

In the development streams, you can specialise in either Sun Microsystem's Java or Microsoft's .NET technologies, working as part of software development teams to design systems and implement complex code. Career progression options would then include senior developer, systems designer or technical team leader roles. Developers in both technology sets are in very high demand, which reveals exciting opportunities within a wide range of client companies.

FDM’s clients span a range of industries around the world and include over 50 of the FTSE 100 companies. Many of our clients have worked with FDM for over five years: JPMorgan Chase, EDS, Fidelity and Accenture have been our clients for more than 10 years.

You will work as an FDM Mountie for a minimum of two years. Many Mounties enjoy working in a number of client offices over that period, experiencing different challenges and different work cultures. At the end of two years, you are free to leave and pursue your own career, although many Mounties stay with us for over four years.
